Who is eligible?
A child between the ages of 2½ and 18 with a life-threatening medical condition, at the time of referral, is potentially eligible for a wish. The child cannot have received a wish from another Make-A-Wish® chapter or any other wish granting organization. The child’s physician will determine if the child is medically eligible, based on our criteria that the medical condition must fall into the category of progressive, degenerative or malignant. The medical condition does NOT need to be deemed terminal for a child to qualify.
Please note that the Make-A-Wish staff does not determine medical eligibility. Once the referral has been taken, the child’s physician is sent information regarding the Make-A-Wish criteria and forms to acknowledge eligibility for a wish.
Who can refer a child?
*Please keep in mind that Make-A-Wish Foundation® will not cold-call a potential wish kid. We ask that you please exercise compassion, and suggest to the family that they contact us themselves. Having a second-party introduction can often times make the child or their family feel uncomfortable, and we would prefer that the process be comforting, enjoyable and as private as possible. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
