Imagine a place surrounded by warm, creulean water and white sand beaches, where ice cream and desserts abound, where Goofy, Mickey Mouse and Cinderella are always available for high fives, dance parties, hugs, and where, according to 8-year-old Myah of St. Johnsbury, it "never, ever, ever, ever, ever rains."
Such a place exists for Myah, who recently embarked on a Disney Cruise.
Myah's wish marks a milestone for Make-A-Wish® Vermont, as it was the organization's 600th fulfilled wish since its founding in 1989. Myah and her parents, Dylan and Sharon, embarked on their cruise that began in New York City and traveled to the Bahamas and Walt Disney World.
Myah suffers from VACTERL syndrome; the acronym "VACTERL" refers to a nonrandom association of birth defects that affects multiple organ systems, including vertebrae, limbs, kidneys, and the heart. Myah's eight years have been filled with surgeries and specialists, and for Myah and her family, numerous challenges arise in particular from the back brace Myah wears, from her heart condition, and from her lack of energy.
A Disney Cruise perfectly suited Myah, who, with her ready hugs, open spirit, performer's flair, and enthusiasm for sharing her interests, loves princesses, animals, coloring, food, swimming, and Disney characters.
Says Myah, "My favorite was EVERYTHING! I was having a good time! No, actually, I was having a FANTASTIC time!
