We asked Amanda and her mom a few questions about her wish experience and received some very thoughtful responses!
What inspired you to choose this wish?
Amanda was inspired to choose this wish because of her older brother’s trip to Florida as a sixth grader and her best friend’s experiences in Florida visiting her Aunt.
What was your favorite part of your wish?
Animal Kingdom was Amanda’s favorite part of her wish because she got to see animals that weren’t in Vermont, meet Pocahontas, and dance with the zebra in the Lion King Show. Amanda shared her wish with her mom, dad, and brothers.
If you could relive one part of your wish experience what would it be?
If I could relive one part of my wish experience it would be, Give Kids the World. It is the coolest place. You have your own Villa or house, there were a bunch of activities, and you could do basically anything you wanted. I liked everything but especially the spa, pool, old-fashioned Merry-Go Round, and the playground. The playground is so much fun; it’s shaped and designed like Candy Land with lots of other cool stuff. Plus, you can pick your food and have ice cream anytime you want!
What is the most vivid memory you have of your wish?
One vivid memory is my big brother bringing one of the Florida geckos (lizards) inside our Villa, my dad freaked out and Josh was disappointed he couldn’t keep it. It was hilarious, especially since my brother is old enough to know better.
Tell about one funny, exciting, or happy moment during your wish.
An exciting moment on my trip was being tucked into bed by Mayor Clayton who is a large bunny rabbit in charge of Give Kids the World. He is a lot of fun and drives a cool little convertible car. He had a wife and they dressed up in different outfits and did lots of cool things. Another fun moment was seeing them in the morning before I had ice cream for breakfast! Mayor Clayton and his wife were lots of fun!! I loved them so much my mom and dad got me the charms of their faces to bring back to Vermont!
Are you still in touch with your wish granters?
I am still in touch with my wish granters, Megan and Mike! They are great people. Sometimes I run into them in the store or at Norwich University. Other times I send them pictures or cards to let them know what I’m up to.
If there was one thing you think could have made your wish better what would it have been?
I really wouldn’t change my trip it was awesome from start to finish. There was one small disappointment for me. I was hoping to be Pocahontas or Mulan when I got dressed up at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and they didn’t have either of those princesses. Then they only had Rapunzel through size 6. o I chose to be a Hip Hop Jasmine. One cool thing I didn’t expect was that my fairy godmother from the boutique was also a volunteer at Give Kids the World and she came up and congratulated me after my singing performance in Village Idol. My parents and I thought it was pretty incredible that she remembered me, and my name!!
My wish was an incredible experience. I got to experience things I’d never dreamed of and had only seen on TV. Disney, Give Kids the World, and the Limo ride were incredible. I think some day I’d like to be a volunteer at Give Kids the World because it’s such a fun, happy place!!
What advice would you give to future wish kids?
My advice, to other Make-a-Wish kids is to think about your wish carefully, take your time and enjoy every moment. It’s a once in a lifetime experience!!
