Make-A-Wish Vermont recently celebrated the granting of its 800th Wish! Wish Kid Asher, 5, of St. Albans, wished for a pool and had the coolest pool party that any kid could wish for!
On August 27th, the official day of Wish Granting, members of the Guardian Legion, and most importantly, Asher’s favorite superhero, Spiderman, helped Asher capture the Joker, so that he wasn’t able to spoil the fun of all Asher’s friends and family, who had come to celebrate with him. The Fairfax Fire Department and St. Albans Police Department provided backup.
Wish Mom Brittany shared her excitement and happiness on Asher’s Wish Granting.
“Last summer we were constantly at Asher’s aunt and uncles’ house swimming! That got him thinking of having a pool at our house with easier access!”
Although, Asher’s Wish of a pool was part of his excitement, it actually helps quite a bit with keeping him strong. “Swim therapy is one of the best therapies for children with spinal muscular atrophy,” says Brittany. “We were able to have Asher's physical therapist come to our home a few times and do swim therapy with him. It also makes life a lot easier having access to a pool, with a lift, right in our backyard! No packing up and traveling to swim, or do physical therapy in the pool. The lift has been an amazing feature for us to have with Asher, as he will continue to grow and gain weight!”
Asher’s party was a day filled with excitement and high spirits, as family and friends shared his joy. Brittany says, “Asher's favorite part of his Wish Granting day was having all the superheroes come arrest the Joker! We videotaped them and he watched it back that same night! He loved having a big pool party with all his cousins!”
